Fyrrverandi hennar Britney Spears hann Adnan Ghalib hefur veriš handtekinn

Britney Spears' ex Adnan Ghalib was arrested and charged with a felony this morning for running over a court officer who tried to serve the paparazzo with a restraining order against the singer.

Ghalib, 36, has pled not guilty.

L.A. criminal defense attorney Gregory Caplan tells Usmagazine.com that Ghalib could face up to eight years in prison and a permanent revocation of his drivers license if convicted of the charges.

Lawyers for Britney, 27, went to L.A. Superior Court Jan. 20 to get temporary restraining orders against Ghalib and her former manager, Sam Lutfi. Jamie Spears, who serves as his daughter's conservator, alleged that Lutfi and Ghalib were sending threatening text messages to Britney and trying to take control of her affairs.

Earlier this month, LAPD Police Officer Sam Park confirmed to Us that a report was filed on Ghalib alleging that he'd committed assault with a deadly weapon -- his Mercedes -- on Feb. 11.

A source told Us that the court officer attempted to serve Ghalib the restraining order papers, but when spotted, the paparazzo "turned his wheels towards the agent and hit him with his vehicle," causing the officer to fall "on the hood of the car while Adnan was speeding and zig zagging in the alley for 30 to 40 yards."

Ghalib allegedly fled the scene, the source said, and the officer spent the night in the ER with a fractured wrist.

Britney and Ghalib hooked up in late 2007 -- around the time she was hospitalized twice for mental health issues. A source told Us in November that she penned song "Mmm Papi," on her platinum album Circus, about him.

Meanwhile, in a hearing at L.A. Superior Court today, a judge extended the temporary restraining order against Lutfi and Ghalib until March 18.

Britney's former security guard, Itmar Gelbman, testified that Lutfi sent 11 late-night text messages to Spears' hairstylist, Roberta Romero, over a four day period -- and that Britney asked the guard to contact Lutfi to ask him to stop.

Romero also took the strand, saying, "[Britney] told me she was scared of him and told me not to talk to him."
