'Transformers' dominates box office
Robust robots squash 'Spider-Man' record


 
With moviegoers transforming the July 4th holiday box office into non-stop fireworks, DreamWorks and Paramount's "Transformers" scored the highest seven-day performance for a non-sequel in history, clobbering previous record-holder "Spider-Man."

Pic closed out its 6 1/2 day opening at an estimated $152.5 million from 4,011 screens, including an estimated weekend take of $67.6 million. "Spider-Man" made $151.6 million during its first seven days.

"Transformers" and other films benefited from an unusually hectic July 4th holiday week at theaters, bookended by two lucrative weekends. Coming in at No. 2 behind "Transformers" was holdover "Ratatouille," which needed no re-heating on its second weekend out. Disney-Pixar toon made $29 million from 3,940 screens for a new cume of $109.5 million.Likewise, 20th Century Fox's "Live Free or Die Hard" stayed buff. Taking the No. 3 spot, film made an estimated $17.4 million over the weekend from 3,410 screens for a new total of $84.2 million.Coming in at No. 4, Warner Bros. laffer "License to Wed" made $10.4 million from 2,604 engagements for a six-day opening of $17.8 million. Film bowed July 3.Taking the No. 10 spot was Michael Moore's docu "Sicko," distributed by Lionsgate for the Weinstein Co. Holdover made an estimated $3.6 million as it expanded to 702 screens over the weekend for a new cume of $11.5 million.

Miðað við tekjurnar á þriðjudeginum og miðvikudeginum og fimmtudeginum, þá var maður farinn að gæla við að helgaraðsóknin yrði meiri. En þetta eru ótrúlegar tölur ... hlakka til að sjá myndina - vonandi sem fyrst!!
