Til Hamingju Ólafur de Fleur - James Mangold To Direct Remake Of Icelandic Thriller ‘City State’

Iceland, so hot right now? It would appear to be so. The upcoming Mark Wahlberg flick “Contraband” has its origins in the 2008 film “Reykjavik-Rotterdam,” and now another thriller from the nation that gave us Bjork and Sigur Ros is getting the remake treatment.

With “The Wolverine” now on hold until spring/summer 2012 so Hugh Jackman can hoof it in “Les Miserables,” it appears that director James Mangold will try and get something in before his life gets taken over by the comic book franchise. James Mangold has signed on to take on “City State” a remake of Olaf de Fleur Johannesson‘s film that’s not even out yet in his native land. No word yet if Mangold will take on writing duties as well, but the movie itself finds four overlapping story lines converging in a tale about the foreign mafia taking over the Icelandic drug trade. We presume the story will be relocated for Mangold’s film, but it sounds like pretty pedestrian fare no matter how you slice it.
