Whenever it comes to actors salaries I always debate whether to post it or not. The first reason is that the amount of money involved is more than I will ever see in my life, which makes me sad, and the second reason is that it may just be speculation with little or no truth to it. In this case there may be, so here it is.
According to EOnline (via MovieLine) Leonardo DiCaprio will be getting over $50 million for Inception because the film was considered a risky venture by financiers, so DiCaprio agreed to take an up-front pay cut in return for back-end pay once the film broke even. It was one of those ‘first-dollar gross’ deals the big actors got during the 90s before the ‘movie star’ died out.
Inception sailed past $600 million worldwide last week (some think it may reach $750 million before its run is over) so one would bet the film broke even a while back and now everyone is just rolling in money. If this is the case, and DiCaprio is getting around $50 million, it will be his highest salary to date.
Over $600 million worldwide for an original movie is amazing (and well deserved) so Christopher Nolan won’t have any trouble getting any more of his ideas made into movies after Batman 3.
